Chosen by Grace
This powerful exploration of Ephesians chapter one reminds us of a profound truth we often forget: we are chosen. Not because of our merit, our abilities, or our worthiness, but purely because of God's grace and mercy. The message takes us back to the early church at Ephesus, where Paul wrote from a Roman prison to remind believers of their identity and calling. What makes this letter so compelling is that it's one continuous outpouring of praise—verses 3 through 14 form a single sentence in the original Greek, as if Paul couldn't catch his breath while recounting God's goodness. We're challenged to remember that our spiritual blessings—peace, joy, hope, and purpose—come not from our circumstances but from our position in Christ. The most humbling realization is this: God didn't need to choose us, yet He did. Before the foundation of the world, He selected ordinary, broken people to be the vessels of His extraordinary grace. This isn't about our performance; it's about His character. When we truly grasp that we've been chosen despite our unworthiness, it should simultaneously humble us and ignite a fire within us to serve Him wholeheartedly. The question becomes: if God chose us not for ourselves but to show the world His kindness, how are we living out that calling?
